My experience with Chernobylite 2 : Exclusion Zone was interesting . Though I rule myself mostly having criticisms of the game , I felt as though I really want to care it . There are clearly passionate developer working on this claim , and while I think the game has a prospicient direction to go before I would openly urge it , it ’s a in force thing that it ’s releasing in other access , give the developers a probability to hopefully absorb some feedback from players and improve the title before its full launch . While the game is , again , not in a state I would recommend at the minute , I did walk aside confident that all of the issue present could easily be fixed before the game releases , at which item I would like to take a second look at it .
Before I remain , it ’s deserving pointing out that the variant of Chernobylite 2 : Exclusion Zone I played is not in reality the version of the biz releasing shortly in early access . In kind of a first in my career of game reviews , the developers of Chernobylite 2 : Exclusion Zone did n’t send me a key for the game as it will be released , allowing me to take an early look at the secret plan as it will be expel on March 6 . or else , they sent me a cay for the game ’s demonstration , the same one you’re able to go and download now . As such , this followup could be wholly incompatible with the translation of the game you work . It ’s something I feel deserved to be pointed out before would - be histrion register too far into this critique .
The first thing you are go to notice about the Chernobylite 2 : Exclusion Zone demo is the dead massive file size . The second matter you ’re going to notice is the Unreal Engine logo as you launch the biz .
There is an unfortunately vulgar occurrence of challenging , unoptimized Unreal Engine games hit the market place . Chernobylite 2 : Exclusion Zone is regrettably one of these . Though I well exceeded the secret plan ’s recommend hardware requirement , the performance of the game gradually became worse and spoilt as I played , lead to a steady 30 Federal Protective Service in the opened - humanity surroundings , even lower in the plot ’s poorly designed , crowded home segments , and at its very bad , leading to a full system lockup while loading into one of the game ’s levels .
It ’s moderately confusing to me howFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth , a game I knock for being somewhat heavy on its graphic demand , can run about a hundred times liquid than this AA passion project .
To the secret plan ’s deferred payment , Chernobylite 2 : Exclusion Zone has some of the most gorgeous and creatively designed environments I have ever seen in a game . The thing about Chernobylite 2 : Exclusion Zone , at least from the demo , is that it feels as though it was too ambitious with its graphic plan . So much love and effort was put into how the game looks that everything else feels like something of an afterthought . Even ignoring how the game perform , the tier plan often seems so focused on appear pretty that the thought of player progress and navigation seems unaccounted for . This is specially unfeigned in the implausibly cluttered home preferences where I often incur myself lose , and the paths forrard were originative , at best , and hard to notice .
commingle the game ’s gorgeous - to - a - flaw environments and lighting with the stiff vitality , underwhelming voice acting and dialog , and dull character reference designs , you finish up with something that is kind of bump around to look at . To the game ’s credit , though , monsters often were far more visually interesting than any of the human or human - adjacent cast .
I also found myself middling unsatiated with Chernobylite 2 : Exclusion Zone ’s story and pacing . The game features a few false starts , setting up like the news report is about to start only to fourth dimension - and - space - omission to a new narrative focal point , using what could have been several viable jumping - off points as simple exposition , rushing us through a ton of past events only hold together by cite to you being there second ago . Exposition is heavy sport in the plot ’s penning , which find the need to explain most situations at face note value even as they are chance . The pacing of these events feels too tight , almost as if the news report , as it exists now in the demo , is a very cut - up version of a greater narrative they had to strip down for meter .
The setting itself also felt a small strange to me . While I was interested in a lot of the science fiction concepts , even as they were quickly explained at a recess - neck tempo , I found the arch over connexion to the Chernobyl disaster to be unnecessary and hollow . The storey , as presented in the demo , seems to be cling between the idea of being a human race - traveling planeswalker , as they draw in the game ’s prolonged and expo - filled introduction , while also wanting the story to entirely take position in the 19 - mi - long Chernobyl Exclusion Zone .
It ’s clear that the developers took aspiration from the religious mysticism in the real - life disaster zone , as well as games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. that also research this area . However , if you expect me , it feel as though a quite a little of their writing and world - edifice expand beyond the scope of their original interest , becoming a bit too bloated in scale . It simply find to me at several point that a fictitious character with the powers that he had , working for the people he put to work for , should n’t have been stranded as he was in an area you could push through in half an hour . The secret plan , at least as it was presented in the demo , would have been a lot more engaging story - wise with a protagonist who was a footling closer to the background , especially one without the ability to “ take the air between world . ”
